First, I am a true Pittsburgher in every way; I love my city and have been
productive as an advocate for people here for over 20 years. I do understand
what our citizens need and are not getting because I am one on them and have
been a victim of neglect from our local government just like most of our
neighborhoods in Pittsburgh.
I do have vision, it simply is not what you are use to hearing. Both Mayoral
candidates tout increasing Pittsburgh Population by attracting outsiders with
our taxpayer’s dollars. While most Pittsburgh tax payers would love for more
people to make the city their home, and while we certainly need to grow city
revenue, a single-minded focus on attracting more taxpayers amounts to little
more than speculation -- the kind of speculation that has allowed large
businesses to locate in the city, make money, and then leave without paying a
dime of taxes. This is unfair to our many hard-working, taxpaying citizens and
to the thousands of small businesses that faithfully pay their share of taxes.I believe our first priority should be to retain and satisfy current city
residents. If we repair our streets and infrastructure, support small
businesses, improve distressed areas, and provide quality services, our
population will be so happy that non-residents will take notice and want to make
the city their home.Your statements about my candidacy are a quick summary of
what information about me? You must know that you are missing a quote and/or
failed to identify a position of mine that demonstrates my lack of vision.I have an informative web site that has been up and running two months before
Mr. Dowd entered the race. I have been out on the campaign trail just like the
other candidates and I answer all e-mails. I have even given interviews to all
members of the media. YOU, just requested an interview? I will agree to one!
Please, before you make again such an influencing statements about my candidacy
become informed! You pre-judged me! This is what is wrong! Let us get past this!
This is a race on the issues that most concern Pittsburgh not a race on how the
pundits can manipulate the masses.
Since I wrote the article, I have visited her website and saw that she is far beyond the other two candidates in web information and actually putting up a website. She even has Twitter! I should have known better to count out the underdog, any underdog. And if her website is any indication as to her talents, she may be able to give City Councilman Patrick Dowd and Mayor Luke Ravenstahl a run for their money.
As Ed Heath commented on his blog, Cognitive Dissonance, "Carmen's site is much more complete than either Ravenstahl's or Dowd's. And I believe she has less money then either of them." He goes on to say ". . . the fact that she knows either how to build a website herself or how to employ someone who knows how to do a good job suggests she might know the importance of getting City information onto the Internet, and addressing the digital divide."
Ms. Robinson will be added to my interview list. I look forward to hearing from her.

She is wrong, she does not "answer all emails" because I have emailed her campaign months ago and I have heard nothing back. I know of others who attempted to reach her campaign through email and had similar results - no response.
Having a website up and running is meaningless if it is a sloppy website. Don't take my word for it - see for yourself. Notice how crappy the text is formatted. It's a mess and it's not the easiest website to read.
If she's reading you, maybe she'll answer what she was thinking in agreeing so early to only three debates. I acknowledge her points about needing the time to get out into communities and interacting with residents, but isn't debates one very efficient way to do this? Also, from a strategic perspective, when dealing with an incumbent it's always best to demand as many debates as possible for as long as possible. I'm not saying she had an obligation to go along with whatever Dowd said, but he was operating from a pretty well-established game plan for challengers that would suit her as well. What did she gain by early agreement?
I attributed the formatting issues to me using Explorer and not Firefox. It doesn't matter which a person uses, it is the website, now that you mention it. Hopefully it will be resolved. The point I was trying to make was she's atleast on top of it.
She's agreed to do the interview, so hopefully she will answer my questions and I will be able to post them . . .
as far as contacting the other two, no luck with dowd or luke. maybe it's my nose.
Wow. I can't believe that you guys are skewering Carmen for having a "sloppy" website. I would much rather have a "sloppy" website as you say than an expensive well-formatted piece of crap that has absolutely no information about the candidate. But I do prefer substance over style. I beg Dowd to put up a crappy website, so I can at least know what he stands for. All I know about him is that he's on city council after being on the school board and that he's got 6 kids and lives in Highland Park.
Maybe if Carmen had more volunteers, she'd get some folks to help her answer emails, but as she has largely been completely ignored by the blogosphere, I'm not surprised she hasn't drummed up much support.
If you disagree she's been ignored why don't you go back and read through some blog entries around the time that Shields dropped out of the race and many folks were worried that there wouldn't be anyone to run against Ravenstahl for the mayoral race.
Thanks Lady Elaine for taking a step back and re-thinking your stance on Carmen. Maybe some other cronies can too.
CRONIES? ;-)
Cara, I won't defend P-Diddy for not putting up a more contemporary version of his platform, but if you are honestly stymied as to what he's about there is a whole lot up at patrickdowd.org.
I second that - CRONIES?
Listen - I was getting laughed at on the Burgh Report back in December because I said that if she ran a serious Carmen could pull it off. She has a great story, she is a career public servant...but, again, agreeing with the mayor on having only 3 debates, that was a terrible decision.
And as far as finding out more about Patrick Dowd, you could use this thing called Google, or you can check out Patrick's school board page, which has some links to some of his past editorials and newsclippings.
I would have to agree with Illyrias' frustration with Dowd's site. If you're going to have one out there, at least update it, or take it down.
But then again, there is a lot of stuff out there on him.
As a side note, I'm anxious to see if Lamont will try to sneak in any fashion issues into her campaign!
